The Canadian East Route

Discover Canada's four major cities and explore natural treasures such as the Niagara Falls

Set out on our popular self-drive trip around Lower and Upper Canada, discovering the urban centres and rural splendour of Ontario and Quebec while soaking up the English and French heritage of Canada. Few tours can claim to stop off at Canada's four big cities. Toronto, Ottawa, Quebec City and Montreal are all awaiting you! Toronto is the most modern Canadian city, boasting exceptional views from the CN Tower and offering the chance to enjoy fascinating ice hockey or baseball games. Ottawa is the true reflection of the country: everything is clean and tidy, with the city perfectly blending in with nature. Hence the sheer number of pedestrian areas, such as Parliament Hill or Sparks Street, as well as the vast parks and the culinary delights found at the city's food markets. The typical Canadian dishes are Tourtière and Poutine, which are true delights, as are all the dishes that follow the local maxim of "farm to table". This truly comes to light in Quebec, the most French of the cities that you'll visit. Strolling around Petit Champlain, along Rue du Trésor or around Place Royale will remind you of Paris. So much so that you can visit the city's very own Notre Dame. Just like the French capital, Quebec is full of life, artists and bohemians. Montreal, on the other hand, is the city of cool. You'll love its hippy, gay, Chinese and Latino neighbourhoods. Very close to here are the most impressive waterfalls in the country: the Chutes-Montmorency. They're 30 metres higher than the Niagara Falls, which you can also visit to make a comparison. They are a prodigy of nature, just like the Natural Parks of Jacques Cartier or Mauricie, which will give you a fascinating insight into the animal and plant world of Canada. Last but not least, you can take a trip out to Toronto Islands or a cruise around Thousand Islands to get another perspective of the country. Enjoy an unforgettable trip!

Important remarks

- Tips in Canada are a common practice.

- Generally in Canada the accommodation in the triple rooms have two double beds or one double and one single bed and the quadruple accommodation has two double beds.

- Check-in time at the hotel on the day of arrival depends on each establishment, but in no case will it be before 3:00 p.m., unless otherwise indicated.

- The proposed excursions and tours for each day are purely suggestions, as you can tailor the trip to suit your times, tastes and needs.

- A credit card is considered a guarantee, so sometimes you will need one for check-in at hotels.

- Hotels usually have cots available. Otherwise, babies will have to share a bed with an adult.

- To pick up your rental car, you'll need a credit (not debit) card in the name of the person who made the booking, who must also be the named driver of the vehicle.

- Consult the necessary documentation to enter the destinations visited and for transit in the countries where air stopovers are made.

- Suggested round-trip ferry rides are optional and not included in the final price. If you intend to take the car on a ferry, please let the rental company know at the time of pick-up to receive authorisation. Depending on the conditions agreed to in the rental contract and the company you choose, you might be charged a fee payable at the destination.

- You must give notice that you are going to cross the border while collecting the vehicle. Authorisation may be required to drive through certain countries or areas/states (as is the case in the US and Canada). Depending on the conditions set out in the rental contract and the company hired, you might be charged a surcharge payable at the destination office.
