This is a programme for the contrasts of Sumatra, Indonesia: from observing orangutans in the rainforest to visiting traditional villages, seeing ancient royal palaces or simply soaking up the different pace of life in the land lapped by Lake Toba.

Finally, a few days of relaxation on the beaches of southern Bali.

City of origin - Medan

Departure with destination Medan. Night on board.

Medan - Medan – Bukit Lawang

Arrival at Medan airport. Transfer by road to Bukit Lawang via Binjai and Kuala, approximately 4 hours drive. The road will take us through rubber and palm oil plantations. Arrive Bukit Lawang. Transfer to hotel. Accommodation.

Bukit Lawang - Brastagi

Breakfast. Depart for the river, which we will cross in a traditional canoe. We will start our walk through the jungle to meet the orangutans at feeding time. Later, we will go deeper into the jungle, where we will have the opportunity to observe different animals and plants typical of the rainforest. This trekking will take about 3 hours. Return to the hotel. After a short rest we will drive to Brastagi via Sembahe and Sibolangit. The drive takes about 5 hours. On arrival in Brastagi we will visit Lumbini Park, where there is a replica of Yangon's Shwedagon Pagoda. Stop at a fruit market. Arrival at the hotel. Accomodation.

Brastagi - Samosir

Breakfast. Departure by road to Parapat. En-route visit a traditional Bakat Karo village in Dokan, as well as the Sipiso-piso waterfall, a traditional house, the former palace of the kings of Batak Simalungun and Simarjarunjung, where we can enjoy views of Lake Toba. Later, we will reach Samosir Island, an island in Lake Toba, by ferry. Transfer to the hotel. Accomodation.

Samosir

Includes:

Breakfast and a day dedicated to discovering Samosir. We will visit different traditional Bakat Toba villages: Ambarita, where we will see the ancient meeting place of the Sialagan Simanindo kings, made of stone; Pangururan, to enjoy the views of Lake Toba and hot springs, and Tomok, where the ancient tomb of the Sidabutar kings is located. Along the way it will be possible to stop at a local school to learn about the activities of the pupils. We will also have the opportunity to see how the locals produce hand-woven textiles. Return to the hotel. Accomodation.

  • Triple rooms in Indonesia are generally rooms with twin beds or a double, in which a folding bed is installed to accommodate the third person. Due to the inconvenience this causes, we advise against using this option as far the possible.
  • The baggage allowance on domestic flights of most airlines in India is usually 15 kg per person, so lower than on international flights. Please take account of this when packing your bags.
  • Please check with your international vaccination centre about the recommended healthcare measures in Indonesia.
  • Indonesia is a Muslim country and the month of Ramadan is of major significance to its residents. During Ramadan, entertainment and alcohol will be restricted in most of the country. The sale of alcohol will be restricted in many places, although some establishments will offer alcohol for sale to tourists. During this period, local businesses may also have shorter opening hours.
